Day 9: Board The Ghan Expedition in Alice Springs Checking out after breakfast, the day is yours to explore Alice Springs. Return to your hotel to join a scheduled transfer to the Alice Springs Rail Station to rejoin The Ghan Expedition. This evening, enjoy a unique dining experience. Day 10: The Ghan Expedition, Coober Pedy From your morning stop at Manguri, you’ll venture into the weird and wonderful opal mining township of Coober Pedy, where more than half of the residents live underground. This Morning you arrive in the ‘Silver City’ of Broken Hill as the day begins, where you embark on a morning of Off Train Excursions to discover the mining history and artistic culture of this unique town where the streets are wide and there’s a pub on every corner. Lunch is served onboard as the Indian Pacific enters the southern tip of the spectacular and ancient Flinders Ranges. Arriving in the city of Adelaide in the afternoon, you have the choice of a tour of the city, a visit to the world famous Barossa Valley or McLaren Vale wine regions (seasonal), or a trip to the beautiful Adelaide Hills featuring the culinary delights of Hahndorf.

Miners Tour;
The Miner’s Memorial is a unique and striking structure that sits at a height of 54 metres overlooking Broken Hill. This attraction is located on the highest point of the Line of Lode remnant mullock dumps that traverse the city.
The short axis of this building faces east-west addressing the rising and setting of the sun in memoriam to over 800 miners who lost their lives working in the Broken Hill Mines. This structure is an important monument to the city for both tourism and education about Broken Hill’s rich mining history.
Walking past the walls lined with the names of miners, you will reach the ledge of this structure, which will give you full views of the rising sun, Broken Hill and the Outback beyond.
Visit Broken Earth with skyline views across town and the Indian Pacific below. Visit Trade Hall, a heritage-listed building home to the city’s first labour movement. Under the ‘United we stand’ banner, the Union successfully championed the 35-hour working week and defeated conscription in Australia. You will enjoy a live performance by local actors showcasing the early mining story and life in Broken Hill.

Adelaide, Depart the city towards Glenelg and take the coastal route to the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The beautiful mid-south coast, with its glistening vistas of the Gulf St Vincent and pristine beaches awards your arrival to the McLaren Vale wine region. Pass through rolling vineyards to visit up to five beautiful wineries in the ‘Vale’. Each one is steeped in history with friendly knowledgeable staff, happy to guide you through each wine tasting experience. Best known for Shiraz, the region excels with Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay as well as Spanish and Italian varieties such as Fiano, Vermentino, Tempranillo, Mouvedre, Nero d’Avola & Sangiovese.
DAY 3 NULLARBOR PLAIN
You’ll awake to the seemingly endless expanse of the Nullarbor Plain. Breakfast is served as you travel along the longest stretch of straight railway track in the world. This evening, your sense of wonder will be ignited as you enjoy the tranquillity of dinner under the brilliant desert stars in the remote and beautiful Rawlinna (seasonal).
Off Train Experience
On the fringes of Australia’s biggest sheep stations, this little outpost on the Nullarbor Plain is pure jackaroo country. By car, Rawlinna is a five hour trip from the nearest big town, Kalgoorlie. The Rawlinna Station is home to up to 80,000 sheep spread across 2.5 million acres. To put that into perspective, one paddock alone takes 8 hours to muster by plane.
During the Winter months Platinum and Gold Service guests will be invited to disembark to partake in drinks, canapés served around a bonfire under the wide Nullarbor skies.
