Ultimate Summit

The iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of the world’s longest steel-arch bridges, spanning an impressive 500 metres and standing proud above the sparkling Sydney Harbour. For many years, BridgeClimbers have scaled the South-side of the Bridge only to reach that jaw-dropping Summit moment…until now.

Going where no Climb has gone before, the Ultimate Climb is the most adventurous climb experience in BridgeClimb’s history, and we don’t say that lightly. The first of its kind allowing climbers to conquer the entire breadth of the legendary “Coathanger” from South to North, and back again.

Climbers can witness the best views of Sydney from all angles, 134 metres above the sparkling Harbour, as well as earn official bragging rights of conquering the full scale of the globally famous icon.

BridgeClimb Ultimate promises an extraordinary experience for the adventurous first-time climber, and a sense of achievement for seasoned BridgeClimbers looking to take it to the next level and immerse in an entirely new perspective of the Bridge.

So, are you ultimately up for it?

Your Plan

Previously known as the Summit Express Climb

Step-by-step (1,002 to be exact!) you will journey through the heart of the Bridge, a cathedral of steel, before bursting through to the Summit. As you ascend the lower arch you’ll be surrounded by beams of steel and the hustle and bustle of the traffic below, enabling you to appreciate the beauty in the Bridge’s construction, and enjoy the 360-degree views that surround you.

This Climb allows you to get up close and personal with the Bridge and experience a unique inside perspective. The breathtaking views you’ll experience along the way will live long in your memory, as will the stories from your expert Climb Leader.

THE JOURNEY:
Latching on in the Climb Base below the Bradfield Highway, you will walk on catwalks directly over Sydney Harbour past the South-East Pylon, until you meet the base of the Bridge’s lower arch on the Opera House side. Here you will commence your ascent as you rise to the peak of the lower arch. At this point, you will break through to the upper arch by taking a staircase to the Summit. After a Summit celebration with your group, you cross the spine of the Bridge to the Darling Harbour side to make your descent to our Climb Base.

Burrawa

Scale to the Summit of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and discover fresh perspectives on the city below with an Indigenous Storyteller as your guide.

Two decades after thousands of Australians walked across the Bridge in the name of reconciliation, this three-hour experience offers a unique and unmissable immersion into Aboriginal stories and landmarks across the harbour.

With Burrawa — a local Aboriginal word that means “above” or “upwards”— climbers step through history with stories that span thousands of years to the present day. Gaze out to sea through Aboriginal eyes. Look down on the shores where Patyegarang taught William Dawes the language of Sydney. Learn the origins of the familiar place names that circle the water’s edge, Bennelong Point and Barangaroo.

With a view that is celebrated around the world, this special event offers a rare opportunity to broaden our understanding and appreciation of the harbour city.CLIMB ROUTE

WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN I CLIMB WITH MY CHILDREN (8 TO 15 YEARS)?
When considering whether this activity will be right for your child, we would like you to consider the following:

Safety is, and always will be, our number one priority for all of our Climbers.
We will equip kids of this age in smaller suits, belts, mittens, or fleeces based on the day’s weather conditions.
Climbing the Bridge is an all-age experience. The stories our Climb Leaders share during the experience are appropriate for a broad age range.
Children will be required to climb with and next to their parent/guardian.
To climb the Bridge, children must be 8 years old and 1.2m tall to participate.
Parents/guardians must remain with their children throughout the Climb experience, and must assist BridgeClimb staff by managing their equipment preparation and behaviour.

CAN SENIORS CLIMB?
Yes. Anyone who can sustain moderate physical exertion up to 3.5 hours over 1.75km should find the BridgeClimb exhilarating. If you’re 75 years of age, or over, you can climb with a Certificate of Fitness signed by your GP. Please, download this form from our website and bring it with you on the day. Our oldest climber, Mrs Chris Muller, reached the summit at 100 years old.

CAN PEOPLE WITH A FEAR OF HEIGHTS CLIMB?
In most cases, yes. We have helped thousands of people challenge their fear of heights by climbing to the top of the Bridge. Head over to our Face Your Fear section for more information about how you can prepare for the challenge ahead. If you have any queries or concerns, please speak to our staff.

CAN PREGNANT WOMEN CLIMB?
If you are less than 24 weeks pregnant, you can participate with a signed Certificate of Fitness from your GP. If you are over 24 weeks pregnant you cannot climb.

CAN HEARING-IMPAIRED PEOPLE CLIMB?
Yes. We encourage climbers who wear hearing aids to leave them safely in their lockers to prevent damage or loss while they are on the Bridge. We have a variety of headsets available and many of our hearing impaired climbers have agreed that these allowed them to enjoy the commentary delivered by their Climb Leader.

We also offer Auslan Climbs. On an Auslan Climb you’ll be accompanied by an Australian Sign Language interpreter who will interpret the commentary about Sydney and its world famous Bridge. These Climbs occur twice a month. Please get in touch with our team to find out more or to make a booking.

CAN PEOPLE WITH A DISABILITY OR MEDICAL CONDITION CLIMB?
We do our best to help everyone climb. To participate you need to have a general level of health and fitness, and the ability to climb independently. To find out more, please visit Pre-Climb Checklist or speak to our staff for advice.

HOW LONG WILL MY CLIMB TAKE?
Our Climb times range from 2.5 to 3.5 hours depending on the Climb type you choose. We ask that Climbers allow a 15 minute provision to collect photos and depart. This applies to all Climbs.

WHAT ARE THE CLIMBING CONDITIONS ON THE BRIDGE?
The conditions vary based on the day’s weather and the Climb you choose. You can expect to possibly:

climb ladders and walk on catwalks
participate in prolonged stair climbing
walk along uneven surfaces and via narrow passageways
be exposed to all weather conditions.

CAN I BRING GLASSES OR SUNGLASSES?
Yes. Please bring your own glasses or sunglasses to wear on the day of your Climb. (No DVR – digital video recorder – glasses thank you.) For more information please visit Pre-Climb Checklist or speak to our staff.

CAN I DRINK ALCOHOL BEFORE MY CLIMB?
You must have a blood-alcohol reading below 0.05 to Climb (the same as if you are driving). To ensure you are eligible to climb on the day, keep your celebration drinks for after your Climb. It will be worth it!

CAN I CHANGE MY BOOKING?
BridgeClimb aims to be as flexible as possible, while covering the associated costs of booking changes. You are able to make changes to your booking, including rescheduling, requesting a credit voucher or cancelling your climb. However, depending on how far in advance these changes are made before your climb date, fees and charges will apply. Please see our terms and conditions for the full details.

WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR ON THE DAY OF MY CLIMB?
We equip you in all the outdoor gear you’ll need for your Climb based on the day’s weather conditions and our health & safety essentials, but don’t forget to bring your own shoes! Please wear comfortable clothing on the day of your Climb in case you need to wear it under your suit for warmth. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to our staff.

WHERE DOES THE CLIMB START AND FINISH?
At our Climb Base which is located at 3 Cumberland Street, The Rocks, Sydney.

HOW LONG IS IT BETWEEN BATHROOM BREAKS?
Depending on your climb route, you may have to hold it between 1.5 - 3 hours! We'll let you know when the last bathroom stop is though.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO REACH THE TOP OF THE BRIDGE FROM THE TIME OF CHECK-IN?
It takes approximately 2 hours to reach the Summit. This includes time to suit-up and complete your pre-climb safety preparation. The descent takes about an hour.

WHERE CAN I LEAVE MY BELONGINGS WHILE I’M CLIMBING?
We provide secure lockers for you to keep any loose objects in, including phones and cameras, during your Climb. The key to your locker will be securely attached to you at all times.

WHAT KIND OF SHOES SHOULD I WEAR?
Please wear comfortable, enclosed rubber-soled shoes such as running, sport or hiking shoes. PVC and leather-soled shoes are not ideal.

CAN I BRING MEDICATION?
Essential medication, like inhalers or diabetic medication, can be taken on the Climb. Please speak to our staff on the day.

CAN I TAKE A CAMERA OR VIDEO CAMERA?
No, unfortunately not. Climbers cannot take loose objects, including cameras, phones or GoPros, on the Bridge. This is to safeguard against anything falling from the Bridge. We provide secure lockers for you to keep your camera or any loose objects in during your Climb. Our photographically-trained Climb Leaders will capture photos of you during your Climb, which will be available for pre-purchase with your booking, or from our Photographics Team after your Climb.
