One of the seven wonders of the natural world, the iconic Great Barrier Reef is blessed with the breathtaking beauty of being the world’s largest coral reef.

Bedarra offers convenient access to the outer reef, with charters available for either snorkelling or SCUBA diving experiences departing directly from the island.

Guests have the option of reserving a private charter with a dedicated guide for a half or full-day personalised reef experience, or joining a group charter for a full-day reef trip.

Snorkelling provides a spectacular way to see the reef however a variety of SCUBA diving alternatives are also available – from introductory dives for guests who have not SCUBA dived before through to advanced deep water and wreck diving for more experienced and qualified divers.

Guests also have the option of a enjoying a scenic helicopter flight to experience the vivid colours of the reef from above.

SNORKELLING
Snorkelling offers a spectacular way to view the diversity of the Great Barrier Reef.

Snorkelling tours visit a number of different reef locations on each trip, offering a large variety of coral types, reef formations and colourful marine life to view.

No experience is required and all snorkelling equipment is provided as part of the tour,

SCUBA DIVING
Diving the Great Barrier Reef is a truly breathtaking experience. A variety of dive sites are available to suit different experience levels and challenges. From shallow water dives offering spectacular coloured coral, perfect for introductory PADI Diving and Open Water Certification, to deeper more challenging dive sites for more advanced dive levels. Each dive tour is personalised based on the experience of each diver and a large variety of dive sites are available to suit varying experience levels and weather conditions.

PRIVATE CHARTERS
Private charters depart directly from Bedarra on MV ‘Sousa’ – a 7 metre Swift Aluminum Rigid Inflatable Boat designed for comfort, safety and performance. The vessel is powered by twin 150hp Yamaha outboards and provides for a fast and comfortable trip to the reef. Designed with the same specifications as Great Barrier Reef Marine Park vessels, ‘Sousa’ is equipped with the latest navigation equipment, radar, sounder and safety equipment. The vessel also features a full length canopy for protection from the sun. Catering is by way of a sumptuous gourmet hamper prepared by Bedarra’s chefs.

GROUP CHARTERS
Group charters are conducted aboard “Reef Goddess”, a 60-foot purpose built dive and snorkelling vessel designed with comfort and safety in mind. The vessel offers spacious deck areas, hot showers, toilets and a sun deck. The vessel also provides for a well designed rear deck for entering and exiting the water with ease. Catering is provided by a full BBQ lunch cooked by the ships Captain with fresh salads, cold cuts and fresh prawns, with a fully licensed bar onboard.

SCENIC HELICOPTER FLIGHTS
Viewing the reef from above is a spectacular experience to be remembered forever. Our private helicopter charter flights depart directly from Bedarra and showcase multiple coral reefs and sand cays from the air before returning home over the tropical islands that make up the Family Islands Group.

SNORKELLING
Every day out on the boat we visit a different destination and often will not repeat the same location within a month or even a year. Some of our favourite snorkelling locations we have named:

The Garden – A shallow and brilliantly coloured, vivid coloured staghorn, plate, boulder and fan corals.
Ashmore Banks – A beautiful sand cay with an incredibly clear fringing reef and deep drop-off, Maori Wrasse, huge Brain Coral formations and the possibilities of Manta Rays, Crayfish and even Dolphins.
The Outer Barrier Wishbone Reef – On calm days we venture out the the incredible outer reef formation located due east of the island. Expect to see every imaginable form of marine life in its most impressive condition.

BLUE WATER FISHING
With knowledge of the area built from thirty years of experience we have the pleasure of guaranteeing an unparalleled fishing experience. Although we rely on our freshly caught seafood for meals we still maintain a high catch and release ration for the fish we don’t need. Some examples of the common species caught are Red Emperor, Coral Trout, Finger mark, Spanish Mackerel, Bluefin Tuna, Queen fish, Dog tooth Tuna and Giant Trevally.

ESTUARY AND RIVER FISHING
Haggerstone is fortunate to be situated near an uninhabited stretch of coastline. This gives us access to untouched river systems. The rivers are both beautiful and teeming with life – a great place to explore, fish and discover. Some examples of the common species caught are Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Fingermark and Estuarine Cod. Saratoga can also be targeted.

The Bedarra restaurant sits beautifully within its natural surroundings – overlooking the pool area, our magnificent 300 year old Calophyllum tree and the glorious Hernandia Bay.

All meals are served in the restaurant, with romantic tables for two sprinkled around our alfresco dining terrace.

We also offer a number of private dining decks on the beachfront or nestled into the tropical rainforest, providing a memorable location for romantic dining.

SEA KAYAKS
Sea Kayaks are available to explore the bays and reefs surrounding the resort, or for the more adventurous to circumnavigate the island to discover a multitude of private beaches and coves.

Allow our chefs to prepare a small hamper to take on your journey to enjoy en route.

STAND-UP PADDLE BOARDS
Stand up paddle boards are an amazing way to explore the fringing reef, and offer a great vantage point to view the abundant marine life around the island.

SNORKELLING AND SCUBA
Snorkelling gear is available from our water sports pavilion to explore the bays, beaches and reefs surrounding the resort.

For the more adventurous, half or full-day charters can be arranged to explore the outer Great Barrier Reef.

Motorised guest dinghies are available for guests to explore nearby private beaches, or further afield to one of the surrounding uninhabited tropical islands.

FISHING GEAR
The waters surrounding Bedarra offer some amazing fishing opportunities.

Fishing gear is available on the island for guest use and can be enjoyed directly from the beach, granite boulders or from one of our motorised dinghies.

For guests more serious about the fishing endeavours, deep sea and outer reef fishing charters can also be arranged from Bedarra.

FISHING CHARTER INFORMATION

TENNIS COURT AND GYM
For guests who are feeling active, we have tennis court and gymnasium available for guest use.

Tennis racquets and tennis balls are provided, as are yoga mats and towels in the gymnasium.

RAINFOREST WALKS
We have a number of rainforest walking tracks on the island that lead to spectacular lookouts or private beaches.

The walks provide a variety of lengths and difficulty levels, and good walking shoes are recommended.

Guests are also able to be transferred to nearby Dunk Island for some longer National park rainforest walking tracks.

SPA & MASSAGES
There is no better way to relax on Bedarra than by indulging in a massage or spa treatment with the sound of waves gently lapping on the beach.

Treatments can be enjoyed in our beachfront massage pavilion, or in the privacy of your own villa.
